~Five Stars~
It has always been a pleasure of mine to read an incredible novel in which I actually learn something from. Recently, I read the amazing novel, Summer of My German Soldier by Bette Green. In reading this book, I learned that things aren't always how they seem and when you look deep into something, you will learn new things under any circumstances. I highly suggest reading this novel for it has brought me great joy and interest reading about a Jewish girl named Patricia Bergen who is underestimated by both her mother and father. This book takes place in Arkansas in the time era of World War Two. I really liked this book because the author wrote about two completely different people who meet in such a perfect way. Also, I like how the character's personality's come out when they are talking to eachother. Lastly, I liked how the author summed it up in a way that made you wonder bout what will happen next.
First of all, when I began to read this book, I thought it was going to be a straight to the point kind of book where everything was exactly on time. However, soon, when it came to getting in to the novel, I was able to understand that the author wrote about two characters who came together from two completely different places. For one thing, I am not in to love and romantic stories but this one does not focus deeply on these subjects as much as Patty's emotions and struggles.
Secondly, I like how the author focused on each and everyone's personality, for I could tell that in every word they spoke, showed some sort of their feelings. For example, when Mr. Bergen spoke to Patty, you could tell that he was speaking his mind. Also, you could tell that because of the way Ruth spoke, she did not have a good education.
Lastly, I liked how the author made the conclusion seem strong yet make you wonder what would happen if they made a second book. When you think about it, a conclusion finishes something off, it makes you feel accomplished now that you have finished something most likely worth reading. What the author did in this book makes you want to read a sequel because where they finished it off, there were loose strings. If anything, I now want to see what happens to Patty when her life goes on.
In conclusion, I truly like what the author did through her writing. It is nice to see difference in writing techniques every here and there especially in a historical fiction writing piece like this one. I enjoyed the way that the author, used monologue techniques, and the way that she made everything come together and make the final product. I loved this book and highly reckomend it for any reader who loves an enjoyable historical fiction novel.
